El idioma inglés es impresionante y para entenderlo debemos conocer algunas características que componen dicho idioma, como el vocabulario, la cultura de los países que lo hablan, la pronunciación correcta de las palabras, un poco de la historia de los países, la estructura lingüística. Hemos separado algunas de las numerosas curiosidades lingüísticas:

1 – El  inglés nativo tiene muchos acentos y direcciones. Puede ser británico, escocés, irlandés, estadounidense, canadiense, caribeño, asiático, australiano, etc. Sin mencionar sus formas Creole y Pidgin.
2 – La letra más común en inglés es ‘E’ – representa el 11% de lo que se escribe en el idioma. Ahora la letra con más palabras comienza es la ‘S’.

3 – El idioma tiene 26 letras y 44 sonidos. Las 26 letras se utilizan para representar los 44 sonidos de 650 formas diferentes.

4 – “Strengths” es la palabra más grande del idioma con una sola vocal y una sílaba.

5 – Existen palabras compuestas en inglés, los compounds – dos palabras que juntas forman un tercer significado completamente diferente. Y si crees que para por aquí, nada más lejos de la realidad, también existen los blends, que son palabras mixtas, tanto en forma como en significado. Un ejemplo famoso es: brunch, que combina  breakfast (desayuno) y lunch (almuerzo)  .

6 – Las palabras “ewe” (oveja) y ” you ” (tú) no tienen letras en común, pero tienen la misma pronunciación. “Eye” y “I ” también.

7 – “Set ” es la palabra con más definiciones diferentes en inglés, ¡en torno de 450! (Para que tengas una idea, ni los nativos los conocen todos …)

8 – La palabra “alphabet” está formada por las dos primeras letras del alfabeto griego: alfa y beta.

9 – La palabra más larga de todo el idioma, que no es un término químico o médico, y que la mayoría de hablantes conocen tiene 32 letras: “ antidisestablishmentarianismists ” (es muy fácil de escribirla que hablarla en inglés, ¿no crees?).

10 – El sonido “i” cuenta con 7 formas de ser pronunciada, y la siguiente frase contiene los siete “He believed Caesar could see people seizing the seas“.

11 – Un anagrama es una especie de juego de palabras, resultado de la reordenación de las letras de una palabra o expresión para producir otras palabras o expresiones, utilizando todas las letras originales exactamente una vez. En inglés, la palabra para “suegra” es mother-in-law. Y su anagrama es  Woman Hitler  (sin comentarios aquí jejeje).

12 – Palíndromo es una frase o palabra que se puede leer, independientemente, de izquierda a derecha o viceversa. En inglés, la oración completa más larga que también es un palíndromo es: “Was it a car or a cat I saw?” (¿Fue un coche o un gato lo que vi?).

13 – Solo hay dos palabras que terminan con -gry: “angry“(enojado) y “hungry“(con hambre). A los jóvenes les gusta usar una palabra más nueva, “hangry” (cuando una persona está enojada porque tiene mucha hambre, jejeje).

14 – La forma plural de la palabra “man” es “men“; de la palabra “woman“, “women“. Pero la forma plural de la palabra “human” es “humans“. (Ni preguntes por qué, jejeje).

15 – Solo hay una palabra en la que una vocal se repite 6 veces: indivisibility. (indivisibilidad)

16 – El  inglés es el idioma con más vocabulario del mundo.

17 – Más de la mitad del vocabulario del idioma inglés es ahora francés-normando y latín a la manera francesa.

18 – Aproximadamente se agrega una palabra nueva al idioma inglés cada dos horas y cada año se agregan alrededor de 4 mil palabras nuevas al diccionario de inglés.

19 –  “Skiing” es la única palabra en el idioma que tiene dos letras i en secuencia.

20 –  Solo existen tres palabras que terminan con  -ceed : “proceed”, “exceed” y “succeed”.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
